The Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes organized a conference on September 5 to review its task performances in the first 6 months of 2018.

The Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes organized a conference on September 5 to review its task performances in the first 6 months of 2018 and to announce decisions of the Minister of Public Security on the posting of its leading positions, its functions, missions and organizational structure.

The event was attended by Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Member of the Politburo, Minister of Public Security.

According to reports, in the first months of 2018, the police force for drug-related crimes investigated and cracked down on various major, trans-provincial and transnational drug rings; removed hotspots of drugs; and stabilized security and order in key areas, contributing to ensuring political security and order, social safety of the country.

From November 16, 2017 to August 15, 2018, the police force for drug-related crimes in coordination with other forces detected and investigated 19,712 drug cases, arrested 28,579 persons involved, seized 1,367 kg of heroin, 686,8 kg and 1.142.905 pills of synthetic drugs, 81,128 kg of opium, 962.69 kg of fresh marijuana and 119kg of cocaine as well as related exhibits.

Speaking at the conference, Minister To Lam asked the police force for drug-related crimes to focus on training investigators, detectives and officers in charge of strategic advice.

He also urged the police force for drug-related crimes in general and leadership of the Department in particular to promote coordination with professional units of the MPS, competent forces of the Border Guard, Customs, Coast Guard and relevant agencies, and enhance the efficiency of international cooperation in prevention and fight against drug crimes.

Minister Lam also asked the Department to further promote communications and raise public awareness of harms of drugs, and mobilize them to join hands in preventing and fighting against crimes in general and drug-related crimes in particular.
