Lai Chau Hydropower Plant recognized as key works related to national security

PSNews - The Economic Security Department under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) in coordination with the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held a ceremony on August 12 to announce the Decision of the Prime Minister to list Lai Chau Hydropower Plant important works related to national security.

The event saw the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security; Mr. Giang A Tinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Lai Chau.

Lai Chau Hydropower Plant is multi-purpose strategic works with a total investment of more than 35,000 billion VND.

The hydropower project is Vietnam's third largest hydroelectric plant built on the Da River, located upstream from Son La Hydropower Plant. Lai Chau hydropower plant was officially completed in the end of 2016 and its third unit officially joined the national power grid in December 2016.

The Economic Security Department is in charge of ensuring security for the plant. Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Duong Minh Hung, Director of the Department, announced the PM’s Decision to list Lai Chau Hydropower Plant as important works related to national security and assigned competent units to perform their duties in accordance to the PM’s Decision on to protect the important works.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam appreciated the efforts and achievements gained by relevant units as well as their efficient coordination in the past time in ensuring the security of the power plant, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

He also asked related bodies, including the EVN, the Son La Power Company and the Provincial Police Department of Son La, to further promote coordination to soon draw up and implement plans to protect the plant under the regulations on the works important to national security. Additionally, he underlined the need to revise the coordination regulations to ensure regular and efficient exchange of information among involved units.
