Large amount of weapons seized at Tan Son Nhat Airport

PSNews-Functional forces have detected a large volume of military weapons in the baggage of a passenger at Tan Son Nhat airport.

On August 20, the Customs sub-Department of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, under the Customs Department of Ho Chi Minh City took into custody a 31-year-old Taiwanese national for illegal transportation of military equipment and weapons by air while he was completing a checkout at the Vietnamese airport.

The seized exhibits include 79 brand new stocks of pistol, 2 military transmitters, a respirator and some other military weapons and ammunition such as M79 cartridges and AR15 cartridges, grenade shells, military supplies and used military uniforms of NATO forces. Such items are prohibited from being exported or imported, according to the local regulations.

The Customs sub-Department of Tan Son Nhat International Airport and the Tan Son Nhat Aviation Safety Center made a written record of the case, and coordinated with the Tan Son Nhat Airport Security Center and other authorities to conduct an extensive investigation into the case.



Two days earlier, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs sub-Department and Tan Son Nhat Airport Security Center were awarded certificates of merit by Lieutenant General Nguyen Cong Son, Deputy Director of the General Department of Police for their excellent achievements in prevention of crimes in general and drug-related crime in particular; making important contributions to ensuring political security and preserving social order and safety, peaceful life and happiness for the people.
