Law enforcement forces of Vietnam, Uruguay establish cooperation

PSNews - As a member of the Vietnamese delegation visiting to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay led by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue at the invitation of the President of the Senate of the host country Beatriz Argimon Cedeira, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung had a meeting with Deputy Minister of the Interior Guillermo Maciel and Director General of the National Police Jose Manuel Azambuya, on April 27, 2023 (local time).

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung highly appreciated the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Uruguay, especially in the context that 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, highlighting mutual support at forums and multilateral mechanisms.

On the basis of the good relationship between Vietnam and Uruguay in general, between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Uruguay in particular, there is much potential and room for the two sides to develop bilateral relations and cooperation, said Deputy Minister Hung.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to officially establish the bilateral cooperation mechanism and assigned functional agencies of the two ministries to study, draft and negotiate agreements on mutual criminal justice assistance, crime prevention and control, extradition and transfer of imprisoned persons, so as to create a long-term legal framework for bilateral cooperation of the law enforcement forces of the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to increase exchange of delegations at all levels to improve mutual understanding and expand cooperation in the fields of security and police as well as to share information and experience in the fight against transnational crimes such as human trafficking, illicit drug trafficking, money laundering, environmental crime, and high-tech crime and terrorism while teaming up in opening training courses to improve professional qualifications for officers of the two sides

Both officials highlighted the meeting as a historic event as it laid the foundation for bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Uruguay in the coming time.
