Leaders of Vietnamese and Lao Ministries of Public Security agree to bolster cooperation

A Deputy Ministerial-level Meeting was held, on the afternoon of August 10, in Vientiane Capital, Laos between a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc and a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Laos headed by Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Khamking Phuilamanyvong.

At the meeting, the two sides gave a review of the work of ensuring order and security in each country and evaluated the coordination between the two ministries in the fight against transnational crimes, especially high-tech crime and illicit drug trafficking.

According to reports at the meeting, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos had achieved positive results of the implementation of the National Agenda on Drug Prevention and Control, which had highly been appreciated by the Lao Party, Government and the National Assembly of Laos. 

The Lao official said that the Lao Public Security Forces had obtained the outstanding achievements in ensuring public order and security as well as controlling crime, thanks to their Vietnamese counterparts’ large support and effective coordination.

According to the Lao side, the bilateral security cooperation continues to be an important pillar in the overall great friendship and special traditional relations between Vietnam and Laos.

In recent times, the two ministries coordinated in building working places for Lao police units stationed along the Vietnam-Lao border, facilitating the Lao police’s effort to prevent and fight crime in border areas, especially illicit drug trafficking. 

So far, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam has handed over 224 communal-level police headquarters to the Lao police.

Additionally, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam also supported the Lao Ministry of Public Security to build the Public Security Academy of Politics, and the project has nearly finished, ready for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Regarding the orientations for cooperation in the coming time, the two sides affirmed to continue to maintain contact between leaders of agencies and units at all levels of the two ministries, coordinate to handle arising cases promptly, deny hostile forces and criminals using the territory of one country to do harm to the other while effectively implementing the deals signed by leaders of the two ministries.

The two sides also underline the need to regularly share information about political security, social order and safety situation in each country, hold briefings on on transnational criminal activities, especially illicit drug trafficking and human trafficking. 

* On the same day, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc visited and check the project on construction of the Political Academy under the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, as well as visited Vietnamese public security officers working at the representative office of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in Laos.
