Local authorities urged to take measures to minimize traffic accidents

PSNews – Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on July 21 sent a dispatch to the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Transport, the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the provincial people’s committees of Binh Thuan, Quang Ninh and Kon Tum province, asking them to take preventive measures to reduce traffic accidents.

Regarding the accident between a truck and a coach happened on the National Highway 1A section in Tan Duc commune of Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan province at around 1am on July 21 killing 8 persons, the Deputy Prime Minister required the Chairman of the Binh Thuan Provincial People Committee to provide the best conditions for the treatment of the injured victims and supports for the dead victims’ families.

He demands the Binh Thuan provincial authorities to investigate the case and temporarily revoke the business license of the company whose driver caused the crash. Earlier, according to the initial investigation results, the coach might have been running in the wrong lane and crashed into the truck.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh asks the Binh Thuan provincial authorities to strengthen patrols and strictly handle all traffic laws’ violation, especially violations of truck drivers and passenger cars. He suggests local forces to clarify the road’s conditions when the accident occurred.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh also urges the Ministry of Public Security to direct police forces at localities, where serious traffic accidents occurred, to urgently investigate the causes of the accidents and check the drivers for abuses of alcohol or drugs.

For their part, the Ministry of Transport and departments of transport of the provinces of Binh Thuan, Lam Dong, Quang Ninh and Kon Tum are requested to increase road patrols and checks of cargo and passenger vehicles operating from 9pm to 5am of the next day. Any transportation businesses with their drivers violating traffic regulations, particularly offences related to drug or drink driving, will be suspended.

They are also required to immediately check traffic safety conditions on National Highways 1, 5, 4 and 51, and join the traffic police force to address prone-accident spots on routes to minimize traffic accidents.

On his dispatch, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh asks the People Committee of Quang Ninh and Kom Tum provinces to review the responsibilities of leaders and committees for traffic safety of the localities, where serious accidents occurred continuously.
