The Soc Trang Provincial Police Department announced that the Ministry of Public Security's project to build 1,200 new houses for needy Khmer people in the province is being accelerated in order to hand over new homes to needy Khmer people on the occasion of the National Independence Day (September 2, 2023).

The Ministry of Public Security assigned the local police to manage a total fund of VND60 billion donated by the Ministry of Public Security and other benefactors for the housing project. The above project contributes to realizing the policies of the Party and State to pay more attention to the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities in Vietnam.

According to Senior Colonel Bui Quoc Khanh, Director of Soc Trang Provincial Police Department, the construction progress of is closely observed by the provincial police. Furthermore, the provincial police cooperate with other associations to regularly inspect the quality of houses.

With a new home, needy Khmer people can stabilize their lives and make more contributions to maintaining public order, security and safety in Soc Trang province.

Well understanding that local socio-economic development is one of the important bases to ensure the human rights, the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee and the Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee attaches importance to both economic development and social security, especially in ethnic minority communities.

In 2022, the province's economic growth rate reached about 7.71%, and 98% of ethnic minority households were connected to electricity.
