Present at the ceremony were representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the High Command of Military Zone 7, leaders of Long An province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng province, and many locals.

The remains were recovered in Svay Rieng province by the Search and Collection Team K73 of the Long An provincial Military Command with the support of Cambodian authorities and people during the 2017-2018 dry season.

Chairman of Long An provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Can said the recovery, repatriation and reburial of Vietnamese soldiers’ remains helps to assuage the great losses and pain of martyrs’ relatives and demonstrates the national tradition of “drinking water and remembering its source” while educating younger generations about the importance of showing love for their homeland and nation.

Mr Can thanked the Cambodian authorities, people and armed forces for their active support in the repatriation of martyrs and hoped that they will continue to assist Long An in collecting the remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers in the coming time.

Since 2001, Team K73 has recovered the remains of 2,104 volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia.
