Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier, on the afternoon of January 17th, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that over the past 35 years, the Vietnam-EU relationship has continuously developed in a comprehensive manner across all areas, with their security cooperation playing a key role in strengthening political trust and helping the two sides jointly address traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

Vietnam and the EU have also closely cooperated in de-escalating tensions at conflict hotspots and promoting peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue on the basis of respecting the interests of all parties involved and adhering to international law.

To promote the relationship between Vietnam and the EU in general and between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) and EU law enforcement agencies in particular, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that both sides should actively share information, exchange viewpoints and consult on international and regional issues of mutual concern.

The host also suggested that the two sides should closely cooperate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations and ASEAN-EU cooperation frameworks.

The Vietnamese Minister suggested strengthening bilateral cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crime, addressing non-traditional security challenges such as pandemics, climate change and food security, promoting anti-money laundering efforts, and considering about the negotiation and signing of cooperation agreements on cybersecurity, maritime security, counterterrorism, and crisis management to enhance bilateral cooperation in these areas.

Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined the need to actively share and exchange information about international terrorist organizations, as well as information related to individuals and networks involved in human trafficking and the illegal transportation of people to EU member countries.

Finally, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the EU continue to strengthen cooperation in the areas that Vietnam has a high need for, such as digital transformation, scientific and technological development, public administration, green economy and renewable energy.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Julien Guerrier highly appreciated the close cooperation between the EU and the Vietnam's MPS in the fields of security, transnational crime prevention, counterterrorism, cybersecurity and crisis management.

The Ambassador underscored that the bilateral cooperation on the above fields is the common priority given by both sides, as well as serves as a firm foundation for the two sides to strengthen their strategic trust and contributes to maintaining stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

Ambassador Julien Guerrier affirmed that, with the great efforts of the two sides, the relationship between the EU and Vietnam in general and cooperation between the EU and the Vietnam’s MPS in particular will develop strongly and substantively in the coming time, benefiting both EU and Vietnamese people and contributing to a safer and more prosperous world.
