Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his delight at positive developments in relations between Vietnam and Turkey, especially following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Turkey in November 2023.

He noted that in the field of security and order, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam had continuously expanded cooperation with Turkish partners, and the two sides had achieved significant outcomes in the fields of delegation exchanges, information and experience sharing in crime prevention, participation in international seminars and training.

The Minister revealed that the Turkish Ministry of the Interior had supported the Vietnamese side in training the first seven Vietnamese police peacekeepers in preparation for the deployment to United Nations peacekeeping missions. Of them, six are currently working at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

He also said that the two sides had strengthened cooperation under the 2007 Agreement on Combating International Terrorism, Organized Crime, Illicit Drug Trafficking, Precursor Substances and Other Crimes.

Recalling the year of 2023 when the Vietnam’s MPS dispatched a team to assist Turkey in dealing with consequences of the earthquake in the country, Minister Luong Tam Quang considered that the activity symbolized the strong solidarity and deep sense of international cooperation between the two nations.

Underscoring that there are still great potential for the bilateral cooperation in the security and defense industry, Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that the Turkish Defense Industry Agency President help connect the Vietnam’s MPS to leading Turkish enterprises operating in this field.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen delegation exchanges at various levels to share experience and explore cooperation opportunity in areas of mutual interest.

They also pledged to step up negotiations to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the security industry, creating a legal foundation for long-term collaboration between the two sides.
