Overview of the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that, in the overall bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Germany, security and defense cooperation always plays a pivotal role in building political trust as well as creates a platform for the two sides to join efforts to address common challenges in the context of the increasingly complex global and regional situations.

Regarding security cooperation between the two countries, the Vietnamese Minister revealed that, during the visit of a high-ranking delegation from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to Germany last October, he had bilateral meetings with several German law enforcement agencies, and the two sides achieved numerous positive outcomes.

According to the host, the two sides reached consensus on further enhancing delegation exchanges at all levels to strengthen comprehensive cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies.

They also agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and control, ensuring that no organization or individual can take advantage of one country’s territory to carry out sabotage activities against the other.

Additionally, both sides agreed to consider about the negotiation and signing of cooperation documents to create a firm legal basis for law enforcement cooperation, and support each other at multilateral forums and international organizations in which both countries participated.

To further promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time, the host suggested that the two sides continue to promote delegation exchange at all levels to share information and hands-on experience in crime prevention and control, and speed up the negotiation and signing of agreements on extradition and transfer of sentenced persons.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also proposed that the German side support the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in training professional expertise and German language for the Vietnamese police forces.

In addition, the Minister of Public Security of Vietnam suggested that German partners provide the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam with modern equipment and facilities to enhance the Vietnamese police force’s capabilities to prevent and combat drug-related crime, high-tech crime and terrorism, as well as to carry out forensic examinations and manage immigration.

Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth underlined that the Vietnam-Germany relationship still has significant potential and opportunities for development, which can bring practical benefits to people of both countries and contribute to maintaining a peaceful, stable, and prosperous environment in the region and the world.

The Ambassador pledged that, in her capacity as German Ambassador, she will spare no effort to deepen the Vietnam-Germany bilateral relations in general and the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and German law enforcement agencies in particular in a practical and effective manner.
