Minister To Lam attends conference on terrorism prevention in Russia

General To Lam, Minister of Public Security led the high-ranking delegation to attend the 18th conference on counter-terrorism in Sochi, Russia from October 15 to 18, at the invitation of General Bortnikov Aleksandr Vasilievich, Director of the Russian Federal Security Agency.

This conference drew the participation of 372 delegates from 79 countries and 4 international organizations.

During the 4-day meeting, delegates focused on discussing three main topics: Systematic solutions in counter-terrorism; prevention and fight against international terrorist organizations and foreign terrorist fighters; cooperation among special agencies in ensuring security and safety for information space of nations.

The Vietnamese delegation delivered a report with the theme “Developing relations and cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and special agencies of foreign countries in the field of information space security”, and actively participated in the discussion “International information security”.

In his remarks, which were highly valued by international delegates, Minister To Lam highlighted that the fourth industrial revolution, with the advent and development of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, quantum computers and cloud computing or big data, has quickly and drastically been changing information space and cyber space. This is posing both advantages and challenges, including non-traditional security threats, to countries.

Minister To Lam also said that Vietnam is among the fastest growing countries in the world in terms of Internet growth. The Government of Vietnam has achieved positive outcomes of the building of an e-government and will build a digital government and digital economy. However, Vietnam is facing various cyber threats and challenges for national security and social order and safety.

Minister To Lam acknowledged the importance of the conference, and expressed his hope that Vietnam could learn valuable experience from law enforcement agencies of other countries in information and cyber security.
