Lieutenant Tuan, officer of the district Police Division on Criminal, Economics and Drug-related Crimes, was injured while he was on his duty of drug related crimes prevention and suppression in the Vietnam – Lao border line.

In the early August 2016, Police forces of Que Phong district (Nghe An) discovered several foreign suspects smuggling drug for sale in mountainous areas of Muong Phu village, Thong Thu commune, Que Phong.

In such circumstance, the district police forces established special investigation into the crime. On September 15th, the forces received the intelligence that the suspects would deliver drugs in the area of Thong Thu commune the next day. After the verification of information, the task force decided to divide into 2 groups for secret arrest of suspects. At around 2 p.m September 16th, 2 suspects were identified to be smuggling drugs and infiltrate from Laos to Thong Thu area.

While the task forces were conducting the arrest, a suspect suddenly wildly stated shooting at the forces with an AK to free his accomplice and disperse the exhibits. Lieutenant Tuan was injured in the shooting.

Despite his injuries, Tuan managed to hold the suspect until other members of the force arrested him. The task force continued to capture other one.

The suspect attacking the force escaped with the drug bag. According to initial testimony, the police identified the 2 suspects, including Tho Hua Ly (45) and Tho Chuong Po (30) and the escaped one was said to be No Tua (24). All of them lived in Nam Tay village, Sam To district, Hua Phan province, Laos.

Immediately after the incident, leaders of Nghe An Public Security Department assigned relevant agencies, including Office of Public Security and Que Phong hospital to give first aid to Tuan at the provincial hospital. He was moved to Vietnam – Germany Hospital (Hanoi) for further treatment. Tuan then recovered gradually.

Lieutenant Tuan is said to be dedicated and devoted himself to work. He is also known for his bravery and determination in the drug-related crimes prevention and control.

As assigned by Minister of Public Security To Lam, Major General Nguyen Quang Chu paid a visit to the hospital to praise and encourage Lieutenant Tuan, hoped that he would soon recover and continue to contribute to the prevention and suppression of drug-related crimes.
