Minister To Lam receives Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar

PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, on August 13 received Mr. Aung Thu, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar, who is on his visit to Vietnam to attend the Vietnam – Myanmar Deputy Ministerial Security Dialogue.

Minister To Lam highlighted that the traditional cooperation between the two countries had been promoted in the past few years. Vietnam appreciated the achievements in reforms and socio-economic development as well as efforts to maintain peace and promote national conciliation of the Government of Myanmar.

Minister To Lam also expressed his hope that the two sides would maintain the current cooperation mechanisms, and increase bilateral meetings between professional units on the sidelines of high-level meetings to promote efficiency of the bilateral cooperation.

Minister To Lam expected that both sides would assist each other in language training and share experience in crime prevention and fight, support each other at the international forums.

The two sides agreed to soon finish negotiations and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on human trafficking prevention and control, which is being drafted by the Vietnamese side. The two sides also considered establishing a direct communication channel between the security and police agencies of the two countries to promptly exchange information about prevention and combat of transnational crimes and terrorism.

Mr. Aung Thu thanked Minister To Lam for his reception and hoped that the bilateral relations would further develop in the future, contributing to ensuring national security and social order and safety in each country.

On the same day, the 7th Security Dialogue between the MPS of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Myanmar took place in Hanoi, under the chair of Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security, and Mr. Aung Thu.

The dialogue is an annual event in the cooperation program between the two ministries, contributing to tightening the cooperation between the two countries in general and the two ministries in particular.
