Minister To Lam receives incoming UK ambassador

Minister of Public Security General To Lam received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Vietnam Iain Frew, who paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Public Security on the occasion of taking office in Vietnam, on the morning of November 3, in Hanoi.

Overview of the meeting.

At the meeting, Minister To Lam stated that the relationship between Vietnam and the UK is growing strongly.

The two sides have political trust and want to deepen the strategic partnership, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UK (1973 - 2023). 

The two countries signed the Joint Statement on "Vietnam - UK Strategic Partnership: Development Orientation in the Next 10 Years" in September 2020; the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the UK (UKVFTA) dated December 31, 2020, while the 8th Vietnam - UK Strategic Dialogue was held in Hanoi in March 2022.

Additionally, the cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and British law enforcement agencies is increasingly strengthened in the fields of security, crime prevention and control. 

The two sides have enhanced exchange of high-level delegations and experts over the past years to discuss and agree on cooperation contents.

To expand the bilateral cooperation in the coming time, Minister To Lam suggested that Vietnam and the UK continue to support each other at multilateral forums, especially UN ones, maintain delegation exchange at all levels, share working experiences, and bolster coordination in crime prevention and control.

The UK Ambassador affirmed that, within his power and responsibility, he will strive to foster the good relationship between the UK and Vietnam, and support and expand the cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the UK's law enforcement agencies for the sake of national security and prosperity of each country and benefits of each people.
