Minister To Lam receives Japanese Minister of Justice

Minister of Public Security General To Lam on the afternoon of June 30 had a meeting with Japanese Minister of Justice Furukawa Yoshihisa who was on his visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, General To Lam said, he believed, the Japanese Justice Ministry would achieve big successes under the leadership of Minister Furukawa Yoshihisa.

The host stated that the visit of the Japanese Minister of Justice was of significance as it created a good opportunity for the two sides to renew justice cooperation in the post-Covid times, and at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations.

Highly valuing the ties between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Japanese Justice Ministry, Minister To Lam highlighted several milestones in the cooperation between the two sides, including the agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons signed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Japanese Ministry of Justice in 2019, and the agreement on criminal justice assistance recently signed by the Vietnamese People’s Supreme Procuracy and Japanese Ministry of Justice, providing an important legal basis for law enforcement agencies of the two countries to cooperate with each other effectively in the fight against crime.

The host hoped that the two sides will continue negotiations and sign other deals to facilitate crime prevention and control in each country, as well as to create favorable conditions for the two sides to coordinate more effectively in ensuring security and safety for visits of leaders of one country to the other, big events with the participation of the two countries, as well as to protect citizens and representative offices of one country in the other.

He also wished, the Japanese side would invest more in projects and aid packages for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security as the Vietnamese Public Security Forces are in the process of developing as a regular elite and modernized force.

For his part, Minister Furukawa Yoshihisa thanked Minister To Lam for the warm welcome. He highly appreciated the positive developments in relations between the two countries.

Specially, he expressed delight at the good results of cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Japanese Ministry of Justice, saying that the cooperation between the two sides had become more efficient and practical, particularly in the areas of citizen protection and fighting against crime of all kinds.
