Minister To Lam visits Lao People's Democratic Republic

General To Lam, Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security,leading a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security,arrived in the Lao PDR on February 10, starting his visit to the country.

On the afternoon of February 10, Minister To Lam and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Member of the Politburo of the Lao Revolutionary People's Party, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

At the meeting, PM Thongloun Sisoulith welcomed Minister To Lam and his delegation to Laos.

Minister To Lam passed the greetings from Mr. Nguyen PhuTrong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnam State President,as well as other Vietnamese leaders to Lao Prime Minister and other Lao leaders.

On behalf of the Vietnamese People’s Public Security Forces, Minister To Lam spoke highly of the achievements obtained by the Lao people and security forces over the past years.

He hoped that Laos would provide support for Vietnam when it assumes ASEAN Chair, ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Chair in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-21 period.

The guest also briefed the host on results of his meeting held earlier with the Lao Minister of Security.

According to Minister To Lam, the two sides pledged to effectively realize agreements by the two countries’ leaders this year and the cooperation agreement adopted by the two governments at the 42nd meeting of the Vietnam– Laos Inter-governmental Committee. The two sides agreed to continue delegation exchanges at all levels as well as join efforts to fight hostile forces and crimes to maintain security and order in each country,and ensure absolute security and safety for political events organized by Vietnam and Laos in 2020.

* Earlier, General To Lam had a meeting at the head quarters of the Lao Ministry of Security with Senior Lieutenant General Vilay Lakhamphong, member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and Lao Minister of Security.

On this occasion, under the authority of the Vietnamese State President, Minister To Lam presented medals from the Vietnamese Government to 18 Lao officials who had made great contributions to the cooperation between the two sides.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed a working plan for the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the two sides in 2020.

* On the same day, Minister To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and met with the Vietnamese Embassy’s staff.
