Minister To Lam visits Republic of Korea

PSNews - A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam, led by Minister of Public Security General To Lam, paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) starting from July 8 at the invitation of law enforcement agencies of RoK.

Minister To Lam and the delegation had a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister of RoK Lee Nak Yeon and held talks with the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency Min Gap Ryong. Vietnamese Ambassador to RoK Nguyen Vu Tu joined the visiting delegation.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Lee Nak Yeon appreciated the visit by Minister To Lam, saying that it would contribute to promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries and cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of RoK and the MPS of Vietnam.

On behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Minister To Lam thanked the Prime Minister for the reception and stressed that Vietnam always attaches much importance to its relations with RoK. He hoped that RoK would continue to share experience with Vietnam and promote the bilateral relations in various fields for the sustainable development and common interests of the two peoples, as well as for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.

Over the past time, the two sides have promoted exchange of delegations, maintained various cooperation mechanisms, including “Vice-ministerial-level dialogue on diplomacy – security – defence”, “Vice-ministerial-level dialogue on security between Vietnam and Korea” and “Vice-ministerial-level conference on cooperation between police forces of Vietnam and Korea”.

The MPS of Vietnam has signed an agreement on cooperation with the National Police Agency of Korea and a Memorandum of Understanding on prevention and control of transnational crimes with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office of RoK.

Minister To Lam hoped that the Government of Korea would continue to promote and facilitate cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries.

The talk between the MPS of Vietnam and the National Police Agency of RoK took place earlier on the same day.

Minister To Lam and Commissioner General Min Gap Ryong agreed that both sides should have concrete plans to promote cooperation in prevention and control of drug-related crimes, enhance exchange of delegations and information, and promote cooperation in personnel training.

Regarding the recent violence against a Vietnamese bride in RoK, Commissioner General Min Gap Ryong unveiled that the RoK police are conducting an intensive investigation the case to seriously punish the offender and ensure legitimate interests and rights of Vietnamese nationals in RoK.

On the same day, Minister To Lam and the MPS delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy in RoK.
