PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security leading a working delegation, on March 28, visited and worked with the local authorities of Ly Son island district (Quang Ngai province) on issues related to public order and security in the locality as well as to the building of the local police force.

The event also saw the presence of Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Chief of the Ministerial Office of the Ministry of Public Security, leaders of units under the Ministry of Public Security, leaders of the Quang Ngai Provincial Police and the Ly Son District Party Committee and People's Committee.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tho Thanh, Head of the Ly Son District Police, reported to Minister To Lam and the delegates on the outcomes of police work and socio-economic development in the locality in the past time.

According to the report, the district’s police actively carried out reforms in state management of social order, including issuing identity cards and registering vehicles for citizens. The unit also focused on residence management, management of business and investment in industries with security conditions, fire prevention and fighting as well as traffic order and safety maintenance.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam praised the achievements of the Ly Son District Police and highlighted the important position of Ly Son Island in protecting national security, strengthening national defence and developing national economy.

The Minister emphasized that Ly Son is a small island district, but it has over 20,000 residents. In recent years, the number of tourists to Ly Son increased sharply, with 250,000 tourist arrivals in 2018 and an anticipate number of up to 300,000 visitors in 2019. In fact, tourism has been making an important contribution to the economic growth of the locality, improving the living standards of the local people, but also posing a great challenge for the local authorities, particularly the police force, in ensuring security, preserving and protecting the environment.

Minister To Lam urged the Ly Son District Police to coordinate closely with the military units, border guard force and coast guard force in popularizing the laws to fishermen as well as continuously in innovating contents and forms of law dissemination drives and keeping close contact with local fishermen so as to improve local fishermen’s knowledge of laws and encourage them to go and work at high sea.

On this occasion, Minister To Lam also worked with officers and soldiers of the Ly Son Border Guard Station and visited cultural and historical relics on the island.
