Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang stated, the meeting focused on evaluating the results of all aspects of work of the forces, clarifying the causes of remaining issues and limitations, discussing the solutions, and rolling out major tasks of ensuring security and order during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon and in February 2024.

Delivering the general report at the meeting, Chief of Office of the Ministry of Public Security Major General Dang Hong Duc underlined that, in January 2024, public security agencies and units and localities launched extensive campaigns to suppressed crime and ensured security and order prior to the 2024 Lunar New Year festival.

Particularly, forces investigated 3,899 crimes related to social order with 8,953 suspects involved, destroyed 16 criminal gangs, arrested 439 wanted fugitives, handled 887 gambling cases with 3,952 gamblers, cleared 234 cases with 360 suspects relating to black credit, discovered 37 smuggling cases, 700 cases of production, storage, transportation and trading of prohibited goods.

Further, the nationwide police detected and investigated 5,219 drug-related cases with 7,902 suspects, seizing more than 52kg of heroin, 266kg and 329,036 synthetic drug pills and 108.31 kg of marijuana while stepping up the investigation of 108 major corruption and position abuse cases involving 196 officials and persons.

The victories and achievements of the People’s Public Security Forces have well been recognized and praised by Party and State leaders and people.

Under the chair of Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang, delegates actively participated in a discussion session, in which they proposed many solutions to fix mistakes and effectively implement aspects of work during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon and in the coming time.

Discussing major solutions, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc requested that police units should thoroughly grasp the order and security situation in localities and the country as a whole to take the initiative in preventing and fighting crime, particularly crime arising during and after the 2024 Lunar New Year while strictly managing ex-offenders, potential offenders, post-detoxification patients and current drug addicts, as well as drastically combating crimes in cyberspace.

To conclude the meeting, Minister To Lam praised public security agencies and units for their achievements and victories in recent times.

Regarding key tasks in February 2024, Minister To Lam requested that all public security agencies and units should seriously and effectively implement the Ministry's directive on ensuring security and order during the 2024 Lunar New Year, resolutely fight crime, protect absolute safety of key targets, projects, important political, cultural and social events of the country as well as international delegations visiting Vietnam.

Agencies and units should specially ensure order and security in strategic areas and border areas while local police units should actively advise local Party committees and authorities to handle emerging issues , and maintain traffic order and safety, reducing traffic congestion and serious traffic accidents on key routes during the Lunar New Year and early Spring festivals.
