Ministry of Public Security entrusted to do research on national sovereignty in cyberspace

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Science and Technology co-held a ceremony on July 7, 2023, in Hanoi, to sign a contract, in which the Ministry of Public Security will conduct the national scientific and technological reseach project "Requirements and obligations to protect the sovereignty of Vietnam in cyberspace".

The signing saw the presence of Comrades: Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam Dr., Prof., Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat Dr., Assoc. Prof., as well as other senior officials.

From urgent requirements for the task of protecting national sovereignty in cyberspace in order to successfully implement the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland in the current situation, the Ministry of Public Security registered the scientific research project with the Ministry of Science and Technology.

After the Minister of Science and Technology had scrutinized the topic and the outline of the research submitted by the Ministry of Public Security, and the procedures prescribed by law, the Minister of Science and Technology issued a decision, on June 26, 2023 to approve the project, and assigned the Project Committee under the Ministry of Public Security to conduct the research.

In the presence of Minister To Lam and Minister Huynh Thanh Dat, representatives from the two ministries sign a contract assigning the Project Committee of the MPS to conduct the scientific project "Requirements for mission of protecting national sovereignty in cyberspace".

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister To Lam emphasized that the current scientific and technological revolution has created a new and extensive concept of national sovereignty – national sovereignty in cyberspace. 

Accordingly, protecting national sovereignty in cyberspace is a comprehensive mission in all fields, including protecting cyber border sovereignty, national security, social order and safety in cyberspace, as well as the observance of laws, maintenance of political and cultural institutions, the right to self-determination, freedom, national independence, unity and integrity in cyberspace...

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat stated, the topic "Requirements for mission of protecting national sovereignty in cyberspace" is particularly big and important, and of not only academic significance, but also great practical significance for the mission of protecting national sovereignty in cyberspace.
