Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, Ministry of Interior of Cambodia sign cooperation plan for 2023

Minister of Public Security of Vietnam General To Lam and Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng co-chaired a conference to review the results of the 2022 Cooperation Plan and sign the 2023 Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, on March 4, 2023, in Hanoi.

The Vietnamese side participating in the conference included Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung, and representatives of relevant agencies and units of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam while a number of senior officials from the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia also attended the meeting.

At the conference, the two sides reviewed the results of cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Cambodia in 2022.

According to reports, the two sides regularly exchanged international and regional situations of mutual concern as well as issues related to national security, social order and safety of each country.

The two sides also shared information, consulted each other and support each other at international and regional forums while coordinating closely and effectively with each other in ensuring security and safety for important political events in each country.

General To Lam, Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng sign the 2023 Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia.

In particular, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam supported the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia and advised the Cambodian Government to successfully host and coordinate the 40-41 ASEAN Summit and other high-level conferences in Cambodia, and  successfully organize the elections in the country for the commune/ward council for the fifth term.

Although there were still some difficulties in implementing the 2022 cooperation plan due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the police forces of the two ministries regularly held meetings and carried out various cooperation activities in crime prevention and control, such as exchanging information about crime, supporting each other in arresting international wanted by INTERPOL or ASEANAPOL.

Meanwhile, police units stationed along the borderline between the two countries actively exchanged information about crime and criminals, strengthened coordination in fighting illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking, trade fraud and other crimes, coordinated in investigating criminal cases related to citizens of the two countries and maintaining order and security along the Vietnam-Cambodia borderline, contributing to promoting traditional friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Within the framework of the conference, the two ministers signed a cooperation plan for 2023 between the Ministry of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
