Ministry of Public Security reviews task performance of Public Security Forces in January 2020

The Ministry of Public Security on January 20 held a conference to assess the situation and results of the task performance of the whole Public Security Forces in January 2020.

General To Lam, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Public Security Central Party Committee and Minister of Public Security, chaired the conference.

The conference also saw the presence of members of the Public Security Central Party Committee and representatives from agencies and units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Hanoi Municipal Police Department.

In the first month of 2020, the police forces successfully investigated 3,750 criminal cases and arrested 8,668 people involved, stamped out 152 criminal gangs; persuaded 636 wanted criminals to give up to the police, handled 1,049 gambling cases with 4,854 people involved, and eradicated numerous large-scaled criminal networks of online football betting.

The police forces also prosecuted 486 criminal cases and 719 officials accused of wrongdoings in economic management and corruption while detecting 3,743 drug-related cases with 5,152 involved people arrested and 50 kg of heroin, about 150,000 pills and 300 kg of synthetic drugs, 31 kg of marijuana seized.

Police units at all levels detected 578 cases and 701 people illegally trading, transporting, storing and using firecrackers, and caught nearly 14 tons of firecrackers illegally imported into Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the traffic police force strengthened patrols and detected 358,803 cases of traffic order and safety violations, including 20,138 violations of the drink-driving regulations. The traffic police forces fined over VND 253 billion and seized 59,764 violated vehicles.

To conclude the conference, Minister To Lam stressed that in the coming time, especially in the 2020 Lunar New Year holiday, the police units at all levels should continue to strictly follow the instructions of the Party Central Committee, the Government and the Ministry of Public Security.

Additionally, Minister To Lam asked the police units at all levels to take preventive plans to ensure absolute security and safety for national and international events during Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship and fulfill other assigned tasks.

On the occasion of the traditional Tet, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, Minister To Lam extended his best wishes to all public security generals, officers, soldiers, workers and their families.
