Prolonged heavy rains on September 13 in Sa Pa town (Lao Cai province) caused flash floods in Lien Minh commune (Sapa town), resulting in 2 deaths, 4 people missing as well as losses of property.

In that circumstance, 40 officers and soldiers of the 4th Mobile Police Battalion stationed in Lao Cai (the Northwest Mobile Police Regiment, Mobile Police Command) were fast deployed to the area to carry out search and rescue operations as well as natural disaster relief.

Currently, officers and soldiers from the 4th Mobile Police Battalion races against the clock, working around the clock to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

The search and rescue operation faces lots of difficulties as the vast area with complex terrain has almost been buried with a large amount soil and rock, and people’s assets have been swept away. It is very difficult for the rescue teams to determine the locations of people missing.

Despite of difficulties, search and rescue operation is still being carried out by mobile police officers, which more or less relieves local people’s losses.

Some mobile police teams continue search and rescue while others join local people in overcoming consequences of the natural disasters, following the slogan of "The police always turn up when the people are in need or when the people are in trouble.”
