Model of “3-Nos parishes” shows efficiency in Can Tho

PSNews - Vinh Thanh District (Can Tho city), which consists of two deaneries of Vinh Thanh and Vinh An under the Long Xuyen diocese, has 47 parishes and 54 priests. With the high advocacy of local religious dignitaries, followers, in December 2008, the Vinh Thanh District Police Station signed the coordination regulation with the Catholic Solidarity Committee and the deanery of Vinh Thanh and Vinh An to build a model of “3-Nos parishes”.

To implement the model, the police of Vinh Thanh regularly meet with priests, promptly exchanged information about crime the locality. During meetings, local police officers also popularize the Party's policies, the State's laws on ensuring security and order religious dignitaries and followers, and encourage them to actively participate in prevention and fight against crimes, maintenance of security and order in the locality.

After 10 years of implementation, the model has run effectively  in all parishes of Vinh Thanh, raising strength of the local unity bloc, enhancing the role of the local Party organizations and authorities, and promoting participation of local people in prevention and fight against crimes.

Up to now, 100% parishes in the district have registered to build and run the model. The local police force has coordinated with local priests and pastoral councils to hold more than 3,000 meetings briefing local people  on the local order and security situation and tricks of criminals.

All the 30 Christian hamlets in Vinh Thanh have been recognized as a cultural hamlet, 98% of the local Christian families have been presented with the title “Cultural Family”. Meanwhile, people in the parishes have well observed the laws while conducting religious activities.

Over the past 10 years, the religious people in Vinh Thanh have detected and provided over 790 pieces of information about crimes for the police, helping the police force solve hundreds of social problem cases, arrest hundreds of offenders, and settle 215 civil conflicts.
