Since the beginning of 2018, a number of robberies happened at transaction points of banks and private jewelry shops in various localities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa and Son La.

Culprits often used dangerous weapons or homemade guns to intimidate the staff and security guards and rob a large amount of assets. Although the police force quickly investigated, arrested the culprits and recovered the robbed property, the cases still seriously affected local security and order and caused anxiety among the people.

Against this backdrop, the MPS issued a dispatch to direct all police units nationwide to:

1. Promote information dissemination, popularize methods and tricks used by robbers while coordinating with and guiding banks and gold shops to regularly check, review and enhance their guard and security plans. Police units should also support banks and jewelry shops to strengthen their surveillance systems and position their guard teams; brief their employees on the situation to raise their sense of vigilance; cooperate with relevant agencies to take comprehensive preventive measures against criminal activities, contributing to protecting the offices, assets and lives of officials and employees, and ensuring security and order in their locality.

2. Actively analyze, review and predict developments of the situation in the locality; regularly check bank transaction points, ATMs and private gold shops, particularly in rural and suburban areas, and implement professional preventive measures.

3. Continue to boost prevention and suppression measures against criminal activities across the country, implement drastic measures to fight robbery at banks and gold shops. Increase efforts to investigate robberies, arrest robbers and regain robbed property, as well as coordinate with the Procuracy and Court to seriously punish robbers in order to deter and prevent the crime.

4. Seriously maintain operations watch regimes to receive and handle all information in time related to bank and gold shop robberies; promote coordination and exchange of information with relevant units to effectively fight this type of crime.
