MPS celebrates 1st Vietnam Cybersecurity Day

The Ministry of Public Security solemnly celebrated the first Vietnam Cybersecurity Day under the theme “Cybersecurity Imprints and Strategic Orientations in the Era of Nation’s Rise” on August 5, in Hanoi.

Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang, Chairman of the National Cybersecurity Association, chaired the ceremony.

On September 20, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1013/QD-TTg designating August 6 as Vietnam Cybersecurity Day.

The first observance marked a particularly important milestone, aimed at raising the public awareness of the role, significance and benefits of cybersecurity, calling on the entire political system, all ministries, branches and sectors as well as people from all walks of life to participate actively and synchronously in ensuring cybersecurity.

The event also served as an opportunity to review the cybersecurity landscape, enhance efforts in combating cybercrime and advance the national digital transformation progress.

Speaking at the event, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Luong Tam Quang acknowledged and expressed sincere thanks to ministries, sectors, localities, businesses and the people for their effective collaboration and continuous support for the Public Security Forces in ensuring cybersecurity in particular and in protecting  national security and social order in general over the past period.

Minister Luong Tam Quang revealed that the Public Security Forces had actively advised the Party and State to issue strategic guidelines on cybersecurity. 

With their key role in ensuring cybersecurity, the Public Security Forces detected and neutralized numerous cyberattacks as well as sabotage plots and activities orchestrated by hostile and reactionary forces in cyberspace, contributing to building a robust people’s security posture in the cyber domain.

In light of escalating cybersecurity challenges, Minister Luong Tam Quang urged press agencies inside and outside the Public Security Forces to intensify outreach through diverse, practical, and impactful forms of communication so as to widely promote Vietnam Cybersecurity Day and inspire a sense of legal compliance, vigilance and self-protection among individuals and organizations while engaging in cyberspace.

The Minister also stressed the need to further improve the legal framework on cybersecurity, seriously implement the Party’s directives and the State’s laws on cybersecurity, build a firm people-based security posture rooted in a firm all-people position in cyberspace and to strengthen capacity and readiness to emerging from the digital environment.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also suggested raising the country’s cybersecurity capacity and capabilities so as to effectively prevent and respond to all risks and threats in cyberspace, as well as building a early-warning analysis center network, crafting an inter-sector coordination plan  to respond to cybersecurity scenarios and developing a cybersecurity workforce to meet future demands.
