MPS delegation attends 87th Interpol General Assembly

PSNews – Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security, leading a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) is attending the 87th Interpol General Assembly in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 18 to 21 of November at the invitation of the General Secretariat of Interpol and the Ministry of Interior of UAE.

The event has drawn law enforcement delegations from over 170 member countries of the Interpol and 36 partner organizations.

The opening ceremony, taking place at the Madinat Jumeirah Convention Centre on November 18, in the presence of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Senior officials at the opening ceremony emphasized the importance of enhancing international cooperation of the police forces through the Interpol channel in the fight against transnational crime, especially in the current global context, which sees various threats of security and safety to all nations and regions.

During the four-day meeting, delegates are expect to discuss and review results of global police cooperation in 2018 and work out plans and objectives of the joint operation for the coming year. They are also expected to focus discussion on international police cooperation in the fight against terrorism, transnational organized crime, cybercrime and newly emerging crimes such as environmental crime, piracy, trade of stolen artworks.

On the sidelines of the main events, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son and the high-ranking delegation of the MPS also met and worked with the leaders of the Interpol and head delegates of member countries to boost relations and seek more supports from the partners for the crime combat in Vietnam.

The delegation also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Abu Dhabi. At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE Trinh Quang Vinh briefed the delegation on various diplomatic activities of the Embassy in the country.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son in return briefed the embassy staff on the socio-economic development, as well as security and order of the home-country. The Deputy Minister also stressed that the Party and the State always take due care for the Vietnamese communities living across the world, including in the UAE. 

He also underscored the policy of the Party and the State to build a great national unity bloc of Vietnamese people, including those living overseas, as well as to always create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to return to the home country, maintain and promote the national cultural identity in other countries, and contribute to the motherland.
