MPS, EEAS agree to promote cooperation

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the MPS, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh thanked the EEAS and the European Parliament (EP) for their continued support and close cooperation with Vietnam in general and the MPS in particular over the past time. 

He also stressed that on February 12, the EP ratified the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) after nearly eight years negotiating the EVFTA in June 2012.

The ratification of these two Agreements was an important milestone incelebration of the 30thanniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-EU diplomatic relations, bringing the close, comprehensive and extensive partnership between the two sides to a new level. 

The two sides would continue to implement internal procedures, creating favorable conditions for the two Agreements to be implemented on a large scale, in the coming time.

In addition, the Vietnam’s Government and the MPS hope the EU will continuously support Vietnam at international forums, enhance the EU-ASEAN relationship as well as sponsor the ASEAN crime prevention projects in the context that Vietnam is the Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh emphasized that the MPS has been effectively implementing bilateral cooperation with the law enforcement agencies of the EU member countries, especially with countries having large Vietnamese communities, in the fields of cyber security, counter-terrorism, drug crime prevention and fight and human trafficking control.

The MPS is willing to cooperate with the EU in the areas of mutual concern, particularly information sharing, investigation of transnational crimes, capacity building, and assistance of victims of human trafficking in the coming time.

Ms. Paola Pampalonisincerely thanked the Deputy Minister for the reception and expressed her delight at thestrong development ofrelations between the two sides in the strategic fields such as politics, diplomacy, security - defense, economy, trade and investment.

Ms. Paola Pampaloni affirmed that she would spare no effort to bring the friendship and cooperation between the EU and Vietnam in general, cooperation between the EEAS and the MPS in particular to a new high level.
