MPS erects COVID-19 field hospital in Ho Chi Minh City

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS), on August 31, held a ceremony to inaugurate the Phuoc Loc Field Hospital for the treatment of COVID-19 patients at 17, Pham Hung street, commune Phuoc Loc, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Commander of the Ho Chi Minh City-based Pandemic Front Command of the MPS presided over the ceremony.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, and leaders of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc said that in the context of complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces and cities, the MPS leaders decided to build a field hospital in Ho Chi Minh City with a capacity of 300 beds. It will initially ensure 100 beds for critically ill patients.

The Ministry of Health, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, functional forces and donors supported the construction of the hospital.

Experts from the Tropical Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, and Viet Duc Hospital also gave advice to the project manager on the building of subprojects of the hospital. The field hospital was completed in only 7 days of construction.

The deputy minister affirmed that the MPS built the Phuoc Loc Field Hospital with the aim of protecting local public security officers and citizens. “Along with their core task of ensuring security and safety, the Public Security Forces will keep close contact with local people to early detect infection cases as well as provide timely supports for families running out of or those needing medical care", Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc added.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam believed that the Phuoc Loc Field Hospital will make a great contribution to providing timely treatment for patients and minimizing the number of deaths due to the disease. The field hospital must coordinate with the upper and lower level medical units and local authorities.
