The workshop was within the framework of a 3-level capacity-building program on anti-corruption sponsored by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea. The workshop was attended by 33 police officers who are leaders and senior investigators from under-ministerial police departments and police departments of 13 provinces and cities.

Mr. Jason Reichelt, a Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer of UNODC, who has much experience in organizing UNODC’s capacity-building training courses on anti-corruption in many countries, read lectures at the workshop.

Such a workshop is of great significance to countries, including Vietnam, as it helps promote international cooperation in anti-corruption, especially in building capacity of law enforcement forces in collaboration with international partners to investigate and handle transnational corruption cases, contributing to developing a heathy investment environment and promoting the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Vietnamese market.

Currently, Vietnam’s MPS has closely coordinated with UNODC to effectively implement the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the UNODC Global Programme against Corruption.

At the workshop, delegates learned about steps of making an investigation plan and analyzing evidence, as well as discussed corruption in public procurement, procedures for taking statements of witnesses and suspects, clarified relationships among involved individuals and directions of cash flows.

At the workshop, UNODC appreciated professional expertise of delegates from MPS, and wished to organize similar workshops in higher levels in the coming time.

The success of the workshop demonstrated the goodwill of MPS in promoting international cooperation, as well as affirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to effectively preventing and combating corruption.
