MPS holds meeting on human trafficking

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) in coordination with the Women’s Union of Vietnam and the Provincial People’s Committee of Lang Son held a meeting to mark the Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Vice Head of the Governmental Steering Committee on Crime Prevention and Fight, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the meeting.

Reports at the event said that human trafficking has continued to see complex developments in the world, with a large majority of victims trafficked from Asia, Africa and the Middle East to Europe. According to the MPS, Vietnam recorded over 1,000 cases of human trafficking involving some 1,500 offenders and over 2,600 victims. Most of the Vietnamese victims of human trafficking were transported to China.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong called on the whole society to join efforts to prevent and fight human trafficking. He also asked the Criminal Police force in coordination with the Border Guard force to promote cooperation with functional forces of the Mekong Sub-region countries, particularly China in exchanging information, investigating and cracking down on human trafficking rings and recuing victims.

The police force was asked to coordinate with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to effectively identify, receive and protect newly rescued victims of human trafficking, well operate the child support hotline (111), and support victims to reintegrate into the community. The police were also requested to promote international cooperation, fully and effectively implement Vietnam’s international commitments on prevention and combat of human trafficking.

On this occasion, various activities also took place in Lang Son, including a seminar on solutions to human trafficking, communication drives on human trafficking in Cao Loc district and 2 exhibitions on human trafficking.
