MPS launches campaign to suppress drug-related crimes

The General Department of Police on May 31 urged the Provincial and Municipal Police Departments to launch an intensive campaign to crack down on drug-related crimes.

Such a campaign is in response to the Action Month against drugs, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and the National People’s Day against Illegal Drugs (June 26).

Accordingly, the General Department of Police urged the police units to coordinate with local authorities, relevant agencies and organizations, as well as the mass media and other forces to organize practical activities during the Action Month Against Drugs.

The investigation police force of drug-related crimes shall deploy all means and forces to detect, investigate and crack down on major, transnational drug trafficking rings and hotspots of drugs while opportunely detecting and handling cases of cultivating or re-cultivating narcotic-containing plants and actively hunting wanted criminals.

The police forces are also asked to coordinate with the competent forces of the Border Guard, Customs and Coast Guard to implement measures to prevent and fight drug-related crimes in border areas and border gates.

At the same time, police forces of all provinces and cities should intensify inspection over conditional business establishments, including dance halls, bars, karaoke bars, hotels and guesthouses in order to detect and strictly handle illegal drug-related activities.
