The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a meeting with officials appointed as heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad, on the afternoon of January 11, in Hanoi.

Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang chaired the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Deputy Ministers of Public Security; Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs; representatives of under-ministerial units of the two ministries; and officials nominated as Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Consuls General and heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad in 2025.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined the importance of diplomatic work in the context of rapid, complex and unpredictable developments in the world and the region, stressing that the current situation requires more synchronous and effective coordination among ministries and sectors, particularly between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security.

Minister Luong Tam Quang appreciated the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a key advisory agency, as well as the role of ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad in implementing the country’s foreign policy, saying that the foreign affairs sector has no longer stood alone; instead, it increasingly needs information sharing and comprehensive coordination with other agencies and sectors, particularly the collaboration in terms of security and order and law enforcement.

Minister Luong Tam Quang wished that officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassadors, consuls general and heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad would act as bridges to foster, expand and deepen cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and foreign law enforcement agencies, international organizations and multilateral forums. 

He also called on them to actively promote cooperation between Vietnam and other countries on security industry, and effectively implement diplomatic measures to ensure social order and safety, and safeguard national security from afar.

For his part, Minister Le Hoai Trung thanked the Ministry of Public Security for its close coordination and support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in carrying out diplomatic tasks, saying that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue to strengthen coordination among security, defense and diplomacy sectors in the coming period.

On behalf of officials appointed as heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad, Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed appreciation to Minister Luong Tam Quang, the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security and its functional units for their deep concern and great support. 

He affirmed that the appointees, in their new positions, would make every effort to fulfill their responsibilities, serving as bridges, strengthening relations between the Party, the State, the people and sectors of Vietnam and foreign partners in general, and between the Vietnamese Public Security Forces and foreign law enforcement agencies in particular.
