MPS proposes changes to environmental law

Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, stated that the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) highly appreciates the revision of the Law on Environmental Protection. The revised law will create a firm legal basis and institutionalize the Party and State’s current views on fast and sustainable socio-economic development while meeting the requirements of State management for prevention and fight against environmental crimes and other violations of environmental protection regulations

According to the deputy minister, the MPS and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources organized a meeting on June 4 to discuss to the responsibilities of the MPS for ensuring security, social order and safety.

The revised law has been seen as consistent with other related laws and effective in practice. The new regulations of the law have created a full and effective legal basis for the fight against environmental crimes and violations of environmental protection.

Regarding the authority, functions and missions of the Public Security Forces articulated in the revised Law on Environmental Protection, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc said that the two ministries have agreed on the acts of violating environmental protection as stipulated in Chapter 19 of the 2015 Penal Code.

The MPS still proposed to revise the provisions of the Law on several functions and duties of the Public Security Forces to facilitate the forces’ operation in environmental protection.
