MPS rescue team completes international mission in Myanmar

PSNews -  On the evening of April 8, at the Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi), the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a ceremony to welcome home the rescue police team that had finished its rescue mission in Myanmar. Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen chaired the ceremony.

The ceremony saw the presence of Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Myanmar in Vietnam Tin Win Aung Moe.

Reporting on the outcomes of the mission, Deputy Director of the Police Department of Fire and Rescue Senior Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Head of the Vietnamese rescue police team, stated that, during the seven days of participating in rescue operations in Myanmar, the rescue team found the bodies of seven victims and coordinated with other teams to take seven additional corpses out of collapsed buildings and handed them over to the local authorities and their families.

In addition to its search and rescue efforts, the Vietnamese police team also provided first aid and treatment to 50 patients in affected areas, erected four temporary shelters for displaced residents in concentrated residential zones and at a 1,000-bed field hospital, clean and disinfected evacuation zones as well as distributed food and drinking water to local residents.

Addressing the ceremony, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and MPS leaders, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen praised all the 26 members of the rescue team for their great effort to work in extremely challenging conditions and successfully complete their international rescue mission in Myanmar.

Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen underlined that the team’s excellent performance in Myanmar reflected the good professional expertise and high sense of responsibility of the Vietnamese Public Security Forces in implementing international duties, contributing to beautifying the image of Vietnam in the eyes of the international community.

The Deputy Minister hoped that the participating officers will continue to bring into full play their achievements and achieve even greater results in future missions.

Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen requested that the Police Department of Fire and Rescue, in coordination with relevant agencies, conduct a comprehensive review of the mission to draw lessons from the mission in preparation for future international operations.

The Deputy Minister underlined the need to proactively draft and refine domestic and international rescue protocols as well as to maintain regular training and build capacity of rescue forces in localities across the country.
