MPS reviews PSF’s 20-year response to climate change and environmental protection

PSNews - Major General Le Tan Toi, Deputy Minister of Public Security (MPS), chaired a conference to review 20 years of the Public Security Forces’ response to climate change and environmental protection on November 30 in Can Tho City.

The conference also saw the presence of Ms. Vo Thi Hong Anh, Vice President of the Can Tho Municipal People’s Committee, Mr. Vo Tuan Nhan, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Major General Nguyen Van Thuan, Director of the Can Tho Municipal Police Department.

Along with their major tasks of protecting national security and ensuring public order and safety, the Public Security Forces (PSF) have always been a pioneer force in preventing natural disasters, dealing with environmental incidents, participating in search and rescue, evacuating people to safe places from dangerous areas, and supporting people in overcoming consequences caused by natural disasters.

Over the past 20 years, the public security network in charge of environmental protection has gradually been strengthened. All public security agencies and units have had plans and earmarked resources for environmental protection at their workplaces, detention facilities, and medical facilities.

Regarding the fight against environmental crimes, the nationwide environmental police have discovered more than 171,000 violations, requested functional units to prosecute more than 3,300 cases while imposing administrative fines on 133,664 cases with a total amount of nearly 2,000 billion VND.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing both good results and shortcomings. They also pointed out difficulties and challenges in environmental protection, as well as drew valuable lessons and sought solutions to respond to climate change and enhance environmental protection more effectively.

Addressing at the conference, Deputy Minister Le Tan Toi highly appreciated the achievements of public security agencies and units in response to climate change and environmental protection over 20 years.

He also asked the local police units to increase information about environmental protection and mobilize people to participate in response and adaption to climate change and environmental protection.
