MPS reviews results of counter-narcotics work

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a meeting to review the implementation of Plan No. 483 issued on October 7, 2024 by the Minister of Public Security to carry out a comprehensive check and make a list of drug addicts, enhance the management and control of drug addicts, ex-addicts and illegal drug users, and eradicate complex drug hotbeds, on the morning of December 14th, in Hanoi.

Member of the Standing Board of the Public Security Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long chaired the meeting. Reports delivered at the meeting highlighted the results of Phase I of Plan 483. 

According to official statistics, the total number of drug addicts, illegal drug users, ex-addicts under post-rehabilitation programs, suspected drug addicts, and suspected illegal drug abusers was 285,643 people, an increase of 21,607 people or 8.2% up from the time before the plan.

In addition, the police succeeded in eradicating complex drug hotbeds and arresting illegal drug retailers. During Phase 1, 75% of the complex drug hotbeds nationwide was dismantled.

At the meeting, delegates evaluated the results of the implementation of Plan 483, highlighted emerging issues and pointed remaining problems in the fight against drugs in their localities.

Additionally, delegates proposed various approaches to reduce the drug demand so as to manage drug addicts more effectively, prevent new cases of drug abuse, and sustainably cut down the number of drug addicts and illegal drug users, contributing to improving the efficiency of drug prevention and control in the coming time.

Concluding the meeting, on behalf of the Public Security Party Central Committee and MPS leaders, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long hailed the achievements of police units and agencies nationwide in implementing Plan 483 and their efforts to reduce drug demand in recent times.

To make a big step in implementing Plan 483, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long requested all police units and agencies nationwide to thoroughly comprehend the importance of Plan 483, and urging that they quickly resolve the remaining problems and remove the obstacles to the implementation of the plan so as to achieve better results in the future.
