Within the framework of his working trip to the U.S., Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang had talks with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, in Washington D.C.

Welcoming Minister Luong Tam Quang and the delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas believed that, within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the two agencies will closely cooperate in  ensuring legitimate benefits of the people of the two countries as well as promoting peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.

Sincerely thanking the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary for the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that, over the past time, the two sides have effectively cooperated in crime prevention and control, building capacity of Vietnamese police officers as well as ensuring absolute security and safety for visits of top leaders of one country to the other.

The Vietnamese Public Security Minister noted that the two sides regularly exchanged valuable information regarding various types of crime such as high-tech crime, child sexual abuse, economic crime, intellectual property violation, human trafficking and illegal immigration.

Based on the positive results achieved, the two sides agreed to further deepen bilateral cooperation in a more practical and effective manner, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam – U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership.

At the talks, the two head delegates reached consensus on enhancing delegation exchange to share information and experience in crime prevention and control, regularly consulting each other on procedures for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters as well as closely coordinating to track and arrest wanted citizens of one country hiding in the other.

On the occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas signed a Memorandum of Understanding on preventing and combating transnational crimes between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

* Earlier, Minister Luong Tam Quang had a meeting with leaders of SpaceX Corporation to discuss cooperation in the field of information technology.
