MPS suggests revising Law on Enforcement of Custody and Temporary Detention

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security organized a conference to review the legal basis for the work of custody and temporary detention on June 21st, 2024. Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long chaired the conference.

Delivering his opening speech, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long highlighted that, over the past 6 years, since the Law on Enforcement of Custody and Temporary Detention came in effect, all rights and interests of persons held in custody or temporary detention have been protected in accordance with the law, effectively contributing to enhancing the quality of criminal investigation, prosecution, trial and judgement enforcement.

Apart from its advantages, the Law on Enforcement of Custody and Temporary Detention has also shown several shortcomings and limitations, requiring some necessary amendments and supplements to the law to meet requirements of the current situation.

Delegates discuss related issues.

At the conference, delegates also evaluated the results of custody and temporary detention work since implementing the law, discussed shortcomings and limitations in the work as well as proposed approaches to improve the quality of the work in the coming time.

Delegates also discussed amendments and supplements to the Law on Enforcement of Custody and Temporary Detention to better facilitate the work in the current situation.

Overview of the conference.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long underlined that the work of custody and temporary detention makes an important part to crime prevention, investigation, prosecution and trial. 

The Deputy Minister also requested involved police units and agencies to pay due attention to the work of custody and temporary detention, especially management of death-sentenced prisoners, while ensuring legitimate rights, interests of persons held in custody or temporary detention in accordance with policies and laws.
