MPS’s Department for Foreign Affairs aims to expand cooperation with international partners

PSNews – The Department for Foreign Affairs under the Ministry of Public Security on January 22 held a conference to sum up its task performance in 2018 and roll out its working plans for 2019 with the participation of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security.

Reports at the event read that, under the sound leadership the Public Security Central Party Committee, the department in 2018 well performed its tasks, contributing to promoting relations and cooperation of the Public Security Forces with international partners while doing its function well as the Standing Office of the Steering Committee on Human Rights.

During the year, the Department for Foreign Affairs contributed positively to the implementation of the foreign policies of the Party and State and the task of protecting National security, maintaining social order and safety of the Public Security Forces in the context that Vietnam is promoting comprehensive international integration, and that the Industrial Revolution 4.0 is robustly occurring across the world.

The Department gave good recommendations to the Public Security Party Central Committee on the drafting of important guidelines and approaches to foreign affairs and international relations. It especially advised the higher level authorities to expand international cooperation in the field of national security, social order and safety as well as to take various measures to deepen the country's friendship and comprehensive cooperation with other countries.

The above mentioned achievements of the department contributed greatly to raising Vietnam's role and position in the international arena, and raising effectiveness of coordination between Vietnam and other countries in the fight against crimes. Besides, the department participated effectively in multilateral cooperation mechanisms.

On behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh praised the achievements gained by the Department for Foreign Affairs in 2018.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security pointed out some key missions for the sector, stressing that the department should strictly adhere to the central missions of the whole Public Security Forces in 2019: "To complete institutions and strengthen grassroots-level units" in line with the working motto of the whole Public Security Forces "Proactive, exemplary, disciplined, responsible and efficient”.

Besides, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh urged the unit to further analyze and to fully grasp the current domestic, international situations, and the impacts of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, which may negatively affect the work of protecting National security, social order and safety.

Deputy Minister Thanh also asked the Department for Foreign Affairs to proactively coordinate with other countries in prevention and fight against transnational crimes, hunting of fugitives while effectively supporting the domestic police force and foreign police investigation agencies through INTERPOL, ASEANPOL and other bilateral cooperation channels.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security suggested the unit to provide support for other units inside the forces to boost international cooperation on science and technology, and continuously improve professional skills, foreign languages and informatics  for its officers.
