When the police team stopped Lo Van Uong to check him, he reacted strongly against the police force with a knife and ran away into the woods. Uong had a criminal record on possession of narcotics and was released from prison in May 2019.

The police team then found Uong hiding in Lo Van Long’s home in Dan Chu village, Chieng Pac commune. Long also had a criminal record on narcotics trading, and completed his 8-year imprisonment sentence in May 2018. Spotting police officers, Uong used a knife to fight the police and got away again.

Quang Van Xom, 28, a non-commissioned policeman of Linh Luong village, Chieng Pac commune, chased and knocked Uong down. But he was stabbed multiple times by the suspect. Xom was taken to hospital but passed away later.

The leadership of the Son La Provincial Police Department mobilized all professional units in coordination with the Thuan Chau police to hunt for Uong. At the same time, the provincial police leadership cooperated with the local authorities to visited Xom’s family and organized a funeral for officer Xom in accordance with local customs.
