The 73cm by 92cm artwork by painter Tran The Vinh recreates the Korean coach putting his hand over his heart during the singing of the Vietnamese national anthem before a match.

The painting has a starting price of VND117 million (US$5,000).

According to Director of Chon’s Auction House Nguyen Xuan Cuong, the money raised from the auction will be donated to charity. Part of it will be used to support young painters.

The artwork will be on display at the auction house from December 23.

Park Hang-seo from the Republic of Korea, 59, was hired to coach the men’s national, U23 and Olympic football teams last October on a two-year contract.

Park played for his country before starting a professional coaching career. He was the top assistant of Guus Hiddink during the Republic of Korea’s run to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2002.

In Vietnam, Park and his players won hearts of millions of local football fans as they grabbed the AFC U23 championship silver in January, reached the semi-final of the Asian Games in the summer and won the country’s first AFF Suzuki Cup in 10 years in December.

Last week, he was named among 12 winners of the Person of the Year Award voted by the Journalist Federation of Korea, a prize given to recognize the figures that have proudly represented the Republic of Korea throughout the year.
