Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee and Minister of Public Security General To Lam chaired a webinar on the morning of January 27, 2023, connecting between delegates from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) headquarters and those from the provincial-level police departments in all provinces and cities nationwide to review the security situation and work results of the Public Security Forces in January 2023 and during the Year of the Cat.

In a summary report on the situation and work results in January, Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Public Security Lieutenant General To An Xo stated, in January 2023, the Public Security Forces have ensured security and safety for meetings and activities of senior leaders of the Party, State as well as national level events and international delegations while providing favorable conditions for the people to enjoy a safe and happy Tet.

During the month, the nationwide police cleared 3,110 cases of social order crimes, arrested 7,174 involved suspects; dismantled 29 criminal gangs and groups; arrested 911 gambling cases, 3,543 suspects; detected 3,458 illicit drug trafficking cases with 4,896 suspects involved and seized 82.31kg of heroin, 477.25kg and 216,835 synthetic drug tablets and 6.11kg of marijuana.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam hailed the high sense of responsibility and effort of the entire Public Security Forces, who had overcome difficulties and successfully completed their work plans for January 2023 and the 2023 Lunar New Year.

Regarding major tasks for the forces in the coming time, Minister To Lam asked all public security agencies and units to seriously follow and effectively implement directions of the Party Central Committee, the Government and the MPS on ensuring public order and security while mobilizing their forces and means to realize their work plans according to the instructions of the MPS so as to create breakthroughs and momentum for their work accomplishments in 2023.

The minister suggested that agencies and units attach much importance to grasping the situation, ensure absolute safety of Party and State leaders while the mobile police force and the commune-level police force should increase patrols and check to maintain order and security at grassroots levels, especially in key and complex areas in terms of security and remote and isolated areas.

He underscored the need to strengthen internal political security, economic security, ideological and cultural security, network security, information and communication security, immigration security, and requested local police to support people to return to cities and industrial parks to work and live.

Meanwhile, police forces at all levels should continue to take approaches to prevent and fight all types of crimes and law violations, especially gambling, black credit, theft, property robbery, illicit drug trafficking while speeding up the implementation of Project 06, the Digital Transformation Plan in 2023.

As there are a lot of Spring festivals in the post-Tet time, police units, particularly traffic police ones, should mobilize their forces and means to ensure traffic order and safety, minimize traffic jams at the gateways of major cities, key traffic routes, tourist hubs, ceremonial locations. Festival, and strictly handle traffic violations, especially violations of alcohol concentration, speeding and overloading.
