 The Ministry of Public Security held a conference to evaluate the results of the implementation of the "Godmother" Program and to offer gifts to 75 typical godmothers – public security units or invidual officers, who have adopted poor or homeless children, on the afternoon of July 10.

Head of the Committee for the Advancement of Women, Family and Children Affairs and Deputy Minister of Public Security General Tran Quoc To attended and delivered a keynote speech at the conference.

The program "Godmother" is one of the contents that the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security have been leading public security agencies and units to implement over the past years. 

So far, Women’s Union chapters in the whole Public Security Forces have sponsored nearly 1,700 children under 18, including 205 children of public security officers, soldiers and workers, 18 children of fallen public security officers, 145 children of ethnic minorities, 20 children with serious diseases, four children of female prisoners.

Women’s Union chapters of agencies and units under the Ministry of Public Security have adopted 214 children, and the remainders are cared by Women's Union chapters of local-level police units.

Along with this program, some provincial-level police departments also take care of 160 orphans (Ha Giang: 59 children, Yen Bai: 33 children, Hai Duong: 28 children, Son La: 23 children, Quang Ngai: 17 children).

At the conference, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc To and other delegates present Certificates of Merit to godmothers and scholarships to adopted children.

In order to further implement the "Godmother" program in a more effective manner in the coming time, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc To asked Party committees and heads of public security agencies and units to mass organizations, especially Women's Union organizations at all levels, and grassroots-level police units, to pay more attention to and invest more human and material resources in the "Godmother" program.

* Earlier, the Ministry of Public Security launched a training course for 75 couples of typical godmothers and adopted children on measures to prevent sexual abuse, child trafficking and drug abuse, and organizes a visit to Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam for them.
