Police force seize 240 drug-related suspects and 400kg drugs in Northwestern region

PSNews - The Drug-Related Crime Investigation Department in close coordination with specialized units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Son La and Hoa Binh provincial police forces successfully have solved 107 specialized cases, arresting 240 subjects, seizing 153.42 kg heroin; 250,82kg and 134,160 tablets of synthetic drugs over the last 12 months.

The General Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security on August 22 held a conference to review its task performance and to roll out a number of key solutions to implement the conclusion of the Minister of Public Security to deal with the complex drug situation in Son La and Hoa Binh provinces.

On June 28, 2016, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security has a working session with the leaders of the Northwestern provinces of Son La and Hoa Binh and relevant units of the Ministry of Public Security on measures to solve the complex drug situation in Loong Luong commune, Van Ho district (Son La province); Hang Kia and Pa Co communes, Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh province).

After more than a year implementing the guidance of the Minister of Public Security, the Party committees and authorities of Son La and Hoa Binh provinces frequently gave drastic instructions to the provincial functional forces to closely collaborate with the Ministry of Public Security's competent forces to fight drug-related crimes.

As a result, significant outcomes have been achieved over the year as cross-border drug trafficking activities have gradually controlled while hotspots of retail drug trading and drug use have been reduced.

Especially, from September 2016 to August 2017, the Drug-Related Crime Investigation Department in collaboration with relevant units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Son La, Hoa Binh provincial police forces successfully handled 107 specialized cases, arresting 240 subjects, seizing 153.42 kg heroin, 250,82kg and 134,160 tablets of synthetic drugs.

In Van Ho district (Son La province) and Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh province) particularly, police forces has dissolved 6 specialized cases, arresting 16 subjects, seizing 14.18 kg heroin, 18,000 tablets of synthetic drugs and many related documents and assets.

On behalf of the Central Public Security Party Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong applauded and praised the achievements of the Drug-Related Crime Investigation Department, relevant units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Son La, Hoa Binh provincial polices.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security urged the provincial Party committees and people’s committees of Hoa Binh and Son La provinces to strengthen their leadership over the implementation of drug prevention and control; to improve the performance of the political system from the grassroots level, contributing to successfully completing all assigned political tasks and promoting the movement "All people protecting National security."

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong asked the Vietnamese Border Guard Command to implement professional measures to build a peaceful and friendly Viet Nam-Laos borderline; cooperate with local public security forces to organize joint patrols in bordering areas; and jointly organize specialized cases to resolutely fight armed criminal groups illegally trafficking drugs from Laos into Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Public Security Forces were requested to closely follow Plan 66 / KH-BCA-C41 dated March 28, 2017 on promoting the role and responsibility of the General Department of Police as the principal unit to direct all professional departments of the Ministry of Public Security to cooperate with the General Department of Security and the Son La, Hoa Binh Provincial Police Departments to violently attack drug-related criminals and drug trafficking rings’ leaders while ensuring absolute safety for police officers and people.
