Police of Southern provinces asked to promote security and order

Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on June 13 chaired a meeting of leaders of the Police Departments of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and southern provinces in HCMC to discuss measures to enhance social security and order protection after the recent disturbances in Binh Thuan and several other localities.

Minister To Lam was accompanied by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security; and Major General Luong Tam Quang, Chief of the Ministry of Public Security’s Office.

Lieutenant General Le Dong Phong, Director of the Municipal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City and leaders of the Provincial Police Departments of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Long An and Tien Giang briefed the Minister and his delegation on the situations of security and order in their localities in the recent time.

Minister Lam pointed out several shortcomings that need fixing to promote the efficiency of the maintenance work of social security and order. He also hailed the efforts of the police forces in localities to handle situations in recent days. Minister Lam emphasized that the images of police officers and soldiers striving to manage and calm down provoked crowds with some extremists had left a good impression on the public. 

The Minister asked HCMC and the southern provinces’ police forces to closely follow the directions from the MPS, well maintain local security and order, grasp all situational developments, collect people’s opinions, and promote law dissemination, as well as raise public awareness of the policies of the Party, the State, and draft laws.

Minister Lam urged the southern police forces to ensure absolute safety of premises of the Party, State agencies, residential quarters and business areas; develop plans to prevent illegal gatherings and sabotage of public projects while ensuring traffic safety and order, especially on the 1A National Highway.

Additionally, Minister Lam urged the authority of Binh Thuan to strengthen the political system at the grassroots level, mobilize all people to participate in national security protection, and establish a special committee to respond quickly to any possible complex situation at the local level in accordance with the “4-on-spot approaches” motto.
