Police of Southwest region well maintain local security, social order

Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, on May 13 leading a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security had a meeting in Can Tho city with the police forces of the thirteen Southwestern provinces and cities.

According to reports delivered by delegates at the meeting, after professional police officers were posted to the local communes, the security situation at the grassroots level has been well maintained while the numbers of crimes and law violations were significantly curbed,  contributing to creating a stable and secure environment for local socio-economic development.

Besides, the police units in the Southwestern provinces and cities have worked out plans to implement the National Database on Population Project.

The Southwestern police forces also launched intensive campaigns to mobilize all people to surrender illegally-stored weapons, explosives, and combat gears to the authorities, as well as to report cases of illegal storage and use of weapons to the police.

Particularly, the local police forces have seized 114 guns and 3,255 bullets of all kinds, five grenades, 103.9 kg of explosives, 23 detonators, 2,210 combat gears, 554 rudimentary weapons as well as prosecuted 163 cases with 297 people involved and fined VND 1.7 billion in total.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc recognized and praised the efforts of the Southwestern police forces, especially in prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic over the past time.

The Deputy Minister asked the local police to coordinate closely with the part-time police force to enhance the efficiency of their task performance. Furthermore, they should well implement the campaigns on mobilizing people to surrender illegally stored weapons and fight weapon-related violations at the localities.

Directors of provincial and municipal police departments in the Southwest region should guide the development of the National Database on Population Project. All local police officers and soldiers should heighten their awareness of the importance of the project and their sense of responsibility for the implementation of the project.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc also asked the local police forces to pay due attention to ensuring the security situation at the grassroots level, contributing to protecting the safety of Party congresses at all levels and the 13th National Party Congress.

* Earlier on the same day, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc and his entourage inspected the task performance of the My Khanh Commune Police Station (Phong Dien District, Can Tho City).

On this occasion, under the authority of the Minister of Public Security, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc awarded Certificates of Merit to four units for their outstanding achievements in crime prevention and control. 

The awardees included Division 4 under the Investigation Police Department of Drug-related Crimes (under Ministry of Public Security), the Investigation Police Division of Drug-related Crimes, the Mobile Police Division, and the Division of Technical Services under the Can Tho Municipal Police Department.
