Police of Vietnam and Laos agree to fight illicit drug trafficking

Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam Nguyen Duy Ngoc and Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos Khamking Phuilamanyvong agreed on many important contents, including enhancing cooperation in crime prevention and control, and building a national population database at a bilateral meeting on April 5, in Laos.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc informed that, on the basis of the 2023 Cooperation Plan signed between the two ministries and the content of the meeting on January 12, 2023 between the two sides, the two ministries and  relevant units under the close direction of their leaders have basically completed the construction of items of the agreed projects.

In fact, the law enforcement forces of the two ministries of public security of Vietnam and Laos regularly exchanged information and coordinated in planning and implementing special projects.

Additionally, the two sides strengthened coordination in preventing and combating trans-border illicit drug trafficking as well as in arresting wanted criminals of one country hiding in the other.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc shared valuable experiences and lessons on developing national population database and electronic citizen identity, and promised that the Ministry of Public Security will send experts to assist the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and other ministries and branches in developing projects on population data, infrastructure and human resources in Vientiane Capital.

Sincerely thanking the valuable lessons and experience in developing national population database and electronic citizen identity that Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc and members of the delegation shared at the conference, Deputy Minister Khamking Phuilamanyvong stressed that the assistance and support of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security for the Lao Ministry of Public Security is significant.

Deputy Minister Khamking Phuilamanyvong also informed that the Ministry of Public Security of Laos is strongly implementing plans to fight against all kinds of crimes, including illicit drug trafficking.
