Police officer dies while fighting Typhoon No.3

Major Tran Quoc Hoang, who was born in 1987 and from Phung Chi Kien ward, My Hao town, Hung Yen province and worked at the Quang Ninh Prison under the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management of the Ministry of Public Security heroically sacrificed his life while struggling with Typhoon No. 3 to protect the prison’s facilities and inmates.

At midnight on September 7th, flash floods happened in the area, threatening lives of prisoners in the No.2 Camp. While trying to protect for the facilities and prisoners in the emergency situation, Major Tran Quoc Hoang was unfortunately swept away by the raging water.

Despite extremely harsh weather conditions, the Quang Ninh Prison and rescue forces of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department immediately mobilized forces and made every effort to search for Major Tran Quoc Hoang.

At 10:15 a.m. on September 8th, the body of Major Tran Quoc Hoang was found on the bank of a stream in Dong Vai village, Thong Nhat commune, Ha Long city, about 1km away from the police unit.

The Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management of the Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with the local authorities and relevant agencies and units organized a funeral for the fallen officer, extended condolences to his family and implement policies for the deceased police officer’s family according to the laws.
